Dead Work Collective
New Canadian Comic Collective Forms and Launches Kickstarter
WINNIPEG, February 7, 2022: Nine acclaimed Canadian comic creators have formed the Dead Work Collective to share their shorter, unconventional works in the Dead Work anthology.
The 144-page book will be filled with comics ranging across the fantasy, horror, and science fiction genres. To physically publish the book, the collective launched a Kickstarter campaign on February 2 with the goal of publishing the book by May. This campaign quickly reached one-third of its goal within five days, and became a Kickstarter “Project We Love.”
The Dead Work Collective includes recent nominees for the Sequential Magazine Awards: Jordan Patrick Finn, Steven Kaul and Lyndon Radchenka. Members Finn, Justin Currie and Zach Schuster have all run successful Kickstarter campaigns to fund their indie comic projects.
Members Jonathan Ball and GMB Chomichuk, with Radchenka, also recently launched The Eye Collector, a five-issue horror series published by Heavy Metal’s imprint Virus Comics. Other members include writer Adam Petrash, who recently co-edited Alternate Plains: Stories of Prairie Speculative Fiction, and illustrator Christopher Smith.
The Dead Work Kickstarter campaign will run until March 4. Dead Work Collective members live in Winnipeg, Calgary, and Oshawa. More information on the collective, its members, and this campaign can be found at deadwork.ca.
